The remote has a minimalistic design with the following functions (from top to bottom):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Home<\/li>\n<li>Information<\/li>\n<li>Navigation &amp; Select (OK) keys<\/li>\n<li>Back<\/li>\n<li>Menu<\/li>\n<li>Play \/ Pause<\/li>\n<li>Stop<\/li>\n<li>Backward<\/li>\n<li>Forward<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div id=\"web-page\"><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Web Page<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Alternatively we can use a computer web browser to navigate to <a href=\"http:\/\/osmc\/\">http:\/\/osmc\/<\/a>. This displays the following web page:<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-750 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bulis.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/web_remote.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" align=\"middle\" \/><\/div>\n<p>The menu on the left hand side contains all the options you could need to control Kodi. To Play a movie click onto the movie icon and select the movie you want to play:<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-752 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bulis.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/web_remote1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" \/><\/div>\n<p>To open an addon click onto the Addons menu option:<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-754 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bulis.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/web_remote2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" \/><\/div>\n<div id=\"smartphone-app\"><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Smartphone App<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Another option turns your Smartphone into a remote control that issues commands over Wi-Fi. Download one of the following Smartphone applications from the \u2018App Store\u2019 for free (that\u2019s the magic number):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Apple iPhone (download <strong>Sybu<\/strong>)<\/li>\n<li>Android Phone (download <strong>Kore<\/strong>)<\/li>\n<li>Windows (download<strong> XBMC Remote<\/strong>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>After installing the Smartphone application you will need to discover the OSMC device on the network. At some point you will be asked for login credentials use the default settings username <strong>osmc<\/strong> and password <strong>osmc.<\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"any-old-remote-control\"><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Any Old Remote Control<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The last option is to make use of an existing remote control you have lying around the house, but this requires a bit of soldering and wiring to the internal GPIO (General Purpose Input Output) pins of the Raspberry Pi and also requires LIRC (Linux Infrared Remote Control). LIRC is a mature and stable open source library that provides the ability to send and receive IR commands.<\/p>\n<p>Wiring the Infrared Receiver to the Raspberry Pi, The Vishay TSOP31438 has 3 pins:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Pin1 is DATA, goes to RPi pin 12 (GPIO 18)<\/li>\n<li>Pin2 is GND, goes to RPi pin 6 (GROUND)<\/li>\n<li>Pin3 is POWER, goes to RPi pin 1 (3.3V)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-755 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bulis.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/image8.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"400\" \/><\/div>\n<p>After switching on the Raspberry Pi for the first time you may need to connect a USB Keyboard to initially configure your remote control. Navigate to the <strong>\u201cSYSTEM\u201d<\/strong> menu and select <strong>\u201cMy OSMC\u201d<\/strong> from the submenu:<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-756 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bulis.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/image9.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" \/><\/div>\n<p>This opens the OSMC menu:<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-757 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bulis.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/image10.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"359\" \/><\/div>\n<p>Navigate left to the raspberry symbol (Pi Config) on the left:<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-758 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bulis.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/image11.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" \/><\/div>\n<p>Select this to open the Pi Config settings:<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-759 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bulis.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/image12.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" \/><\/div>\n<p>At the top of the Pi settings there are four tabs, navigate to the <strong>\u201cHardware Support\u201d<\/strong> tab is highlighted then move down and select <strong>\u201cEnable LIRC GPIO support\u201d<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-760 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bulis.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/image13.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" \/><\/div>\n<p>Click onto the <strong>\u201cOK\u201d<\/strong> button at the bottom of the page to save and exit the settings. On exit the message <strong>\u2018Changes to Pi config require a restart.\u2019<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-761 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bulis.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/image14.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" \/><\/div>\n<p>Next navigate to the remote control symbol (Remotes):<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-762 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bulis.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/image15.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" \/><\/div>\n<p>Select this to open the Remotes settings:<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-763 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bulis.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/image16.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" \/><\/div>\n<p>Navigate down until you see your remote control and select it:<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-764 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bulis.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/image17.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" \/><\/div>\n<p>You will see a message asking to confirm the new settings, navigate to the right and select <strong>\u201cConfirm\u201d<\/strong> (If your remote control is not in the list refer to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bulis.co.uk\/?page_id=1044\"><strong>Programming LIRC<\/strong><\/a> in the advanced section of this user guide):<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-765 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bulis.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/image18.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" \/><\/div>\n<p>Keep pressing the <strong>\u201cBack\u201d<\/strong> key until you arrive at the <strong>Home<\/strong> screen.
